Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Research Engineer at our Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position is responsible for providing technical support primarily for Carpenter Co.’s Bedding Division, as well as being integral in the development of new products in this area as well as other area.

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to become well acquainted with the Company’s products and manufacturing processes and will interact with Sales, Operations, Suppliers and Customers. 

Your additional responsibilities as a Research Engineer will include:

  • Act as a dedicated technical project manager for large bedding customers
  • Provide daily technical support primarily for the Company’s Bedding Division, to include sales, manufacturing plant, and customer interaction
  • Conduct monthly technical review meetings
  • Integral person for short term and long term product development projects for the Polymer Products Group, particularly Bedding products
  • Work with other members of the Polymer Products Group as well as other groups within the Company as required on larger projects

Skills / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 3 years minimum experience in Project Management.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) experience.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a time sensitive manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Auto Cad/SolidWorks experience is a plus
  • Experience in a polyurethane foam plant is highly desirable
