Carpenter has an immediate opening for a Production-Packaging Lead on 1st shift [6:30 am to 3:00 pm] at our Albert Lea, MN manufacturing plant.  Carpenter Co. is the world's largest producer of comfort cushioning products. This position would be responsible for leading the packaging and shipping department, labeling, loading, shipping foam products and planning of production. This position will communicate with other leads and the Branch Manager for direction of orders and shipments for completion.  Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations of excellence. This successful candidate will be expected to be efficient in the operation of equipment within the department to determine the best material utilization.

Additional responsibilities of the Packaging/Dock Production Lead will include:

  • Good Attendance, while demonstrating safe working habits and attitude.
  • Learns the packaging and loading requirements of completed parts and their quality standards.
  • Must be able to handle repetitive motions of hands, arms, and fingers while packaging.
  • Manually loading and unloading of trailers by hand and with fork truck; with and without assistance.
  • Work within trailers during extreme cold and warm weather as needed (NO refrigeration operations).
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours in one place. Some heavier lifting is required, up to 50lbs.
  • Able to operate computer for order look-up, printing and labeling/shipment needs.
  • Learn the location of raw materials in the warehouse area and properly organize and inventory area.

  • Package foam products by hand:            40-60%
  • Load truck and pallets by hand:               10-20%
  • Planning and management                      10-15%
  • Paperwork and processing shipments:    10-15%
  • Forklift operation:                                       5-10%

Skills / Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree Preferred.
  • Past supervisory roles a plus, but not required.
  • Be able to read specification drawings that assist in learning how to properly assemble finished parts.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
