Job Description

Carpenter Co. has a great career opportunity available for a Process Engineer at our Technical Center located in Richmond, Virginia.  This position will have a joint focus of supporting both our R&D pilot plant and chemical manufacturing plant locations. Part of the job involves providing design and new process development support between the technical center and the chemical plants.  In this role, the incumbent will design, review, build and test chemical processes at the technical center.  Additionally, the Process Engineer will be responsible for documenting process findings and recommending improvements as required. 

 Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage capital projects for the pilot plant.
  • Provide technology transfer for processes from pilot or experimental scale to full production.
  • Design and coordinate process-related projects with technical center research teams.
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues at Carpenter and at customer sites.
  • Support and improve the preventative maintenance program for new and existing equipment in the chemical pilot plant.
  • Develop a working knowledge of new and existing equipment and communicate this knowledge in the form of written work instructions, diagrams, or visual presentations.

 

Skills / Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering [or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 2-5 years of experience]
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and visual presentation software (MS Office)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in building processes and fixing equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pilot plant and/or manufacturing experience, 2+ years
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting process equipment
  • AUTOCAD experience
  • Knowledge of ASME codes
  • DeltaV experience
