Carpenter Co. has an opening for an Associate Research Engineer at our Technical Center located in Richmond, Virginia. This position is responsible in leading internal projects aimed at creating a world-class sustainability program within in Carpenter.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to work independently in the lab to carry out reactions, submit samples for proper analysis of products, and interpret results.

Your additional responsibilities as an Associate Research Engineer will include:

  • Conduct lab-scale experiments on various circularity projects
  • Participate in, and eventually lead, teams to develop new processes and scale up lab processes
  • Assist in the development of yearly internal/external sustainability reports
  • Advance circularity at Carpenter through projects focused on raw material, manufacturing footprint, material use, and end-of-life improvements 

 

Skills / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 0 to 5 years of experience; 2 or more years preferred
  • Previous Sustainability experience preferred
  • Ability to manage work-streams with minimal supervisory guidance
  • Ability to work independently and direct a team to complete projects
  • Ability to learn new concepts regarding sustainability as it pertains to polyurethanes
  • Will be required to stay abreast of sustainability trends within the chemical and materials industries
  • Computer skills to include MS Office; specialized software with training
