Job Description

Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Research Engineer at our Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position will be a part of our Chemical Systems Group. In this position the Research Engineer is expected to work with researchers in the group to operate scale-up equipment in support of the Chemical Systems business. The Research Engineer will be expected to travel to support customers’ production line trials, as necessary. This position requires application of chemistry knowledge to the function of pilot scale and production process equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Large-scale equipment maintenance and operation responsibility for Chemical Systems Division
  • Provide technical service at customer sites for production line trials
  • Provide manufacturing support for specialty products related to customer needs
  • Work with other team members to understand customer, equipment, and chemical system requirements
  • Provide chemical synthesis engineering support for Chemical Systems projects as needed
  • Determine specifications, obtain quotes, and install new equipment
  • Up to 20% travel

Skills / Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering with appropriate coursework or experience
  • 2+ years of chemical industry experience
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Experience with urethane or urethane raw material chemistry preferred
  • Process engineering experience preferred
