Carpenter Co. has a great opportunity for a Product Development and Sourcing Manager within our Bedding division in Richmond, VA. The Product Development and Sourcing Manager will be responsible for sourcing key raw materials, domestic and import, for the Bedding division, ensuring quality product, timely delivery, and reliable suppliers at the most effective cost for all mattress products.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Communicate with Sales and Manufacturing for product development, new market innovations, and design ideas
  • Research and analyze purchases, commodities, and markets worldwide to find new and effective sources for required materials
  • Travel to supplier plants and potential sources to audit capabilities and assess ability to supply Carpenter Co.
  • Establish purchasing plans
  • Establish excellent working relationships, including onsite visits, with Carpenter Co. plants to provide service and support internal customers
  • Negotiate with suppliers
  • Meet with customers in support of sales

Skills / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or other related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management or procurement
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work cross-functionally
  • Experience in purchasing, negotiating and import
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Creative thinker with an aptitude for detail
  • Analytical problem solver with background in data and business analysis
  • Ability to travel 4  to 5 overnights per month
