Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for an IT & PC Support Technician at the corporate office in Richmond, VA. The IT & PC Support Technician will report to the Global IT Systems Manager and will be responsible for supporting and maintaining Corporate desktops, laptops, print devices, as well as Corporate and remote users to ensure optimal software and hardware performance, reliability, troubleshooting, and data security. This will involve daily communication with the users and corporate IT support staff to provide problem solving, troubleshooting, and support.


  • Provide support for all corporate computer users and remote laptop users – technical, hardware, and application software
  • Administers the creation and maintenance of domain users and groups using Active Directory
  • Administers the setup and maintenance of Exchange email users and mailboxes
  • Install hardware and software, updates, backups, maintenance, and user support
  • Maintain communication and liaison between corporate IT staff and division
  • Purchase all computer and software supplies
  • Maintain full documentation of data, software licensing, network topology, and computer operations
  • Ensure corporate IT policies and procedures are implemented, complied with and maintained
  • Train users in new systems and operations

Skills / Requirements

  • Four years’ experience with AD administration, desktop user support and computer hardware support
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of networking, hardware, and software.
  • 2-5 years’ experience installing PC operating systems (Windows XP/7/8/Server 2000/2003/2008/2012)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Experience troubleshooting computer hardware or software problems; knowledgeable in replacing and repairing hard drives, CD/DVD drives, installing memory
  • Experience removing computer viruses and malware
  • Excellent verbal skills; must be able to routinely interface with plant management
  • Knowledgeable in basic networking fundamentals
  • Ability to travel 10%-20% by plane, automobile
