Traffic Manager

Carpenter Co. has a great opportunity available for a Traffic Manager at our Riverside, CA location. In this role, the incumbent will work diligently by directing Traffic Department personnel to ensure deliveries are coordinated appropriately for on-time delivery. This requires the Traffic Manager to maintain communication with Traffic Personnel, Plant Management, as well as the Sales and Customer Service Department.

This position works with nearly every position within the corporation at various times, from plant management, department managers and supervisors, common carrier representatives and drivers, vendors, customer service representatives, local and state representatives, but also hourly employees. Works in a normal office environment with some exposure to temperature changes and various working conditions when entering the production area or the yard.  Major challenge involves the coordination of trucking equipment, production schedules, and manpower to ensure proper delivery, on-time and safely, per customer specification, company policies, and DOT regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • One to two years of prior experience is required to perform the job to include DOT knowledge;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Great organization skills.

Essential functions include, but not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of the loading of trucks in a timely manner and according to customer standards;
  • Direct shipping/receiving clerk to deliver all goods daily to the proper person and department;
  • Direct traffic personnel to make sure drivers are following all DOT regulations;
  • Ensure company policy is being communicated and adhered to;
  • Review common carriers pricing and service standards;
  • Review with traffic dispatcher any changes in scheduling loads or assigning drivers;
  • Encourage and support continuous improvement;
  • Ensure company policy is being communicated and adhered to;
  • Purchase new trailer or tractor equipment, as needed;
  • Review and approve all department personnel time records on a weekly and/or bi-weekly basis, in adherence with DOT and California standards.
