Millwright Mechanic - Toronto, Canada

Job Description

Carpenter Canada Co has an immediate opening for a Millwright Mechanic at our Toronto, Ontario, Canada manufacturing plant; reporting to the Maintenance Manager. This position is on shift rotation of days, afternoons and nights, and is responsible for ensuring that all machinery, equipment, delivery systems, support systems and fabrication of items essential to the manufacturing product(s) for internal and external customers is maintained and operating to meet optimum efficiency. The Maintenance Mechanic will communicate daily with Department Managers and Maintenance Manager to coordinate production schedules with mechanical repairs.

 

Position Description

  • Maintain efficient and safe operation of equipment and building; including fixing, repairing, troubleshooting and installing mechanical devices, components and machinery
  • Perform building maintenance
  • Respond to line calls
  • Debug and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC systems
  • Pre-check, inspect, relocate, install and/or make major mechanical repairs to machinery and equipment
  • Fabricating and welding parts as needed
  • Acts as a lead person occasionally to coordinate projects and equipment breakdowns in the absence of the maintenance lead person and/or maintenance manager
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Requirements and Experience

  • High school education or GED
  • Must be Red Seal certified
  • 2-3 years of millwright mechanic experience
  • Experience using forklift, genie boom, and scissor lift operator
  • Must have the ability to repair all equipment in the plant with little or no supervisor
  • Must be able to interpret and use complicated drawings, using advanced shop math, and handbook formulas
  • Must have the ability to weld and cut steel, braze, solder, fabricate machinery and parts, basic plumbing and electrical skills
  • Must have the ability to recognize mechanical problems before a breakdown through an established preventative maintenance program and report conditions encountered that may affect the operation of the equipment at its optimum efficiency
  • Must have the ability to fabricate any mechanical assembly, install the equipment and make it operational
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, overtime, holidays, weekends, and call-in with little notice
  • Must possess a wide variety of personally owned electrical and non-powered hand tools
  • Must be able to work rotational shifts days, afternoons, nights
